<a href="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/PH%20World%20Eaters/null_zpsd6f90ca2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="91" src="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/PH%20World%20Eaters/null_zpsd6f90ca2.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Well, it has been a while! I've been up to quite a bit over the last few months. As you can see from the picture above I managed to get the World Eaters all completed, the picture is of the full force, all 6000+ points of them all ready to do battle for the Betrayal Campaign weekend. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/PH%20World%20Eaters/DSC_0028_zps058fa2b5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/PH%20World%20Eaters/DSC_0028_zps058fa2b5.jpg" width="241" /></a><span style="font-family: Arial;">It's the first campaign weekend I attended at WHW, I had a blast, never done too well on the gaming side of life, mainly down to the amount of painting I had to do but was pleased with the end result. </span><span style="font-family: Arial;">In the final pairs game we came up against a massed tank army with, off the top of my head, 9 Predators, 5 Land Raiders, 3 Vindicators, 2 Malcadors, 1 Typhon along with a fair amount of Infantry to go along with them. As you can imagine from looking at our army on the board we weren't actually that well set-up to deal with that amount of armour but, you know, fate was on our side and we actually managed a fairly healthy victory.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/PH%20World%20Eaters/DSC_0017_zpsfbd3d38b.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/PH%20World%20Eaters/DSC_0017_zpsfbd3d38b.jpg" width="280" /></a><span style="font-family: Arial;">In the end the Loyalists, the side we were playing for, amassed the highest amount of victory points and were awarded the title "The Righteous Heirs" although we couldn't technically win. I also picked up a couple of awards, "The High Remembrancer" for best army list and "The Magos Reductor" for best army :D</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;">So, with all the heresy stuff out of the way for a bit, sort of, I've cast my eyes onto the new Codex Space Marines, as many of you will know I'm very much a Space Marine nut so it was inevitable that I would start a new marine army when the codex hit.</span><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;"><a href="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/Sons%20of%20Guilliman/DSC_0016_edited-1_zps3e4db438.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="127" src="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/Sons%20of%20Guilliman/DSC_0016_edited-1_zps3e4db438.jpg" width="400" /></a></span></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span> </div>
<div style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/Sons%20of%20Guilliman/DSC_0011_edited-1_zps7441e8fe.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/Sons%20of%20Guilliman/DSC_0011_edited-1_zps7441e8fe.jpg" width="213" /></a><span style="font-family: Arial;">For this army I'm taking a bit of a step back and bringing back my clean and accurate style, if I'm honest the grimey and dirty style has never really been my thing. So I really wanted to go back to what I like best.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/Sons%20of%20Guilliman/DSC_0015_edited-1_zps04afbab2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/Sons%20of%20Guilliman/DSC_0015_edited-1_zps04afbab2.jpg" /></a><span style="font-family: Arial;">The army, as you can tell from the pictures is again a blue and white army, this time in a quartered scheme and the chapter I'm going for is Sons of Guilliman. The first unit I've done is a Sternguard unit, mainly to have a crack at Golden demon with the aim of at least getting through the first cut which I'm pleased to say I did. I really wanted one of the new medals they did for this year :D</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;">That's all for now, there will be plenty more to come over the next few months, more heresy stuff in the shape of Sons of Horus, Angron, some Charcaradons and of course my Sons of Gulliman.</span><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;"><a href="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/Sons%20of%20Guilliman/DSC_0013_edited-1_zps3d774336.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/Sons%20of%20Guilliman/DSC_0013_edited-1_zps3d774336.jpg" width="243" /></a></span></div>

<a href="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/PH%20World%20Eaters/null_zpscd751010.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="146" src="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/PH%20World%20Eaters/null_zpscd751010.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Well, as you can see I'm still going, the army's getting a lot bigger. Although I'm taking a break for a week or so as I'm about to move house and am doing an event for charity at the weekend, <a href="http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/fundraiser-web/fundraiser/showFundraiserProfilePage.action?userUrl=JimmyKarch" target="_blank">Trailwalker,</a> I'd really appreciate it if you could take the time to have a look at the page and the actual event page link at the left hand side of my fundraising page.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/PH%20World%20Eaters/DSC_0009_zpsf2ddb61c.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/PH%20World%20Eaters/DSC_0009_zpsf2ddb61c.jpg" width="289" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">Random point!! Just seen the trailer for Kickass 2, looks awesome :D</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/PH%20World%20Eaters/DSC_0006_zpsc833e7d0.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="230" src="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/PH%20World%20Eaters/DSC_0006_zpsc833e7d0.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">So yeah, I've finished the 2nd Contemptor and the Land Raider for the Rampagers, really enjoyed doing these and very happy with how they came together. (might be adding a bit more blue to the Land Raider at some point)</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">I've also finished the 2nd Tactical Squad, they were a bit of a slog initially but as I started getting through them I really got motivated the get them done.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/PH%20World%20Eaters/DSC_0001_zpsfe4093fc.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="139" src="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/PH%20World%20Eaters/DSC_0001_zpsfe4093fc.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Really pleased with the Sergeant for these guys, I think I got the pose right for the head, seems to fit quite well with the WE theme.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/PH%20World%20Eaters/DSC_0004_zpsb02c7966.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/PH%20World%20Eaters/DSC_0004_zpsb02c7966.jpg" width="280" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">He also carries Melta Bombs, Fortunately Forge World do smaller versions in their <a href="http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/Warhammer-40000/Space_Marines/Space_Marine-Infantry-and-Accessories/LEGION_MkIV_POWER_WEAPON_SET.html" target="_blank">MkIV CCW kit</a> it's a cracking kit, I've pretty much used all of it in some form or another, either chopping the head off of a mace to add a chainaxe head or just the arms for more options and poses on the marines. There are also some excellent power fists and lightning claws that I'm sure I'll use in future armies.</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/PH%20World%20Eaters/DSC_0003_zpsc7db3cda.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="107" src="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/PH%20World%20Eaters/DSC_0003_zpsc7db3cda.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I also won a competition this week over at the <a href="http://goldfishofjustice.wordpress.com/" target="_blank">The Goldfish of <span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Justice</span></a></span><a href="http://goldfishofjustice.wordpress.com/" target="_blank"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">,</span></a><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"> so am really chuffed about that. I'll always try and support these guys as commission painting is something I do a fair bit of and is more than likely something I'll be picking up more of when I leave my current job, I understand how much of a slog it can be at times.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/PH%20World%20Eaters/DSC_0007_zps1f55fb04.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="140" src="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/PH%20World%20Eaters/DSC_0007_zps1f55fb04.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Anyway, I think that's enough of a ramble for this week, expect the next update to feature a large tank, maybe some destroyers and potentially a Praetor, not got a lot left to do for this army :D</span></div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span><br />

<span style="font-family: Arial;">As promised this post will be a walk through/talk through of
the process I’m currently using to paint the World Eaters. So, here you go.<o:p></o:p></span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/WIP%20and%20Tutorials/null_zps54d6b425.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/WIP%20and%20Tutorials/null_zps54d6b425.jpg" width="266" /></a></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;">As you can see from this picture the mini has been built,
based and undercoated. The main body has been undercoated white while the
shoulder pads and back pack have been undercoated black. You’ll notice that the
shoulder pads have been stuck to cocktail sticks and the back pack has had a
hole drilled and paper clip glued in place.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span> </div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span> </div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;"><o:p></o:p></span> </div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">
<o:p><span style="font-family: Arial;"> </span></o:p></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span> </div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span> </div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span> </div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span> </div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span> </div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span> </div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">
<a href="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/WIP%20and%20Tutorials/null_zpsd19a33e6.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/WIP%20and%20Tutorials/null_zpsd19a33e6.jpg" width="187" /></a><span style="font-family: Arial;"></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span> </div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span> </div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;">The first thing I then do is base coat the whole mini with
Ulthuan Grey and black out the areas that aren’t going to be white. Don’t work
about any mess at this point as it’ll be neatened up at the end.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span> </div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span> </div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span> </div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span> </div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span> </div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;"><o:p></o:p></span> </div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">
<o:p><span style="font-family: Arial;"> </span></o:p></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">
<a href="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/WIP%20and%20Tutorials/null_zps1de7a850.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/WIP%20and%20Tutorials/null_zps1de7a850.jpg" width="201" /></a><span style="font-family: Arial;"></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span> </div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span> </div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span> </div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span> </div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span> </div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span> </div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span> </div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;">The first colour I then put on is the blue. I use Macragge
Blue for this, the paint is watered down to roughly about 1 part water to 2
parts paint (1-2), this will need a couple of coats but gives a smoother
finish. Once that’s dry I apply a 1-2 mix of Abbadon Black- Macragge Blue,
watered down 1-1 this time, into the reccess’. The next thing I do is give a
single highlight of Fenrisian Grey watered down 1-1.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">
<o:p><span style="font-family: Arial;"> </span></o:p></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">

<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;">Next up are the metals, the silver is basecoated with
Leadbelcher. The gold has a Warplock Bronze base followed by Gehenna’s Gold,
this helps to give a nice solid gold colour. All colours are watered down
around 1-2. Once both are dry the silver is given a wash of Nuln Oil and the
gold a wash of Agrax Earthshade. I give a fairly heavy application of both
washes as it helps to add definition, just be careful not to put too much on so
that it pools and sits too heavy on top of the colours.<o:p></o:p></span></div>

small drybrush to do this, first the base is overbrushed with Mournfang Brown,
by over brushing I mean that the paint is still wet and just brushed over the
base so it won’t sit in the dips etc. Once the first colour is dry I then do
the same with Ushabti Bone and paint the rim with Rhinox Hide.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;">Once the washes are dry I then highlight the gold with Auric
Armour<span style="color: red;"> </span>Gold followed by Runefang Steel, I also
highlight the silver with this at the same time, again all paints are roughly 2-1
mix with water.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;">The eyes and any pouches are then done. The eyes are done in
3 stages first Khorne Red, followed by Evil Sunz Scarlet<span style="color: red;"> </span>and then Fire Dragon Bright. The pouches are basecoated Rhinox
Hide and given 2 successive highlights adding a little White Scar to each one
in turn. After this the black is done, it’s neatened up with Abbadon black and
given a single highlight of Mecharius Standard Grey. You'll also notice that I've added a layer of gloss varnish on the shoulder pads, this will help the transfers get a smoother fit later on.</span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">
<o:p><span style="font-family: Arial;"> </span></o:p></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;">That’s the mini pretty much ready for the white to be
painted. The first thing I do is apply a 1-1 mix of Agrax Earthshade into all
the reccess’ and then neaten up any mistakes with Ulthuan Grey, I then apply a
single highlight of White Scar on all the edges and add a dot into the corners
of the eyes. With<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>that the mini is
pretty much done. All that’s left to be done at this stage are the decals and
weathering.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<a href="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/WIP%20and%20Tutorials/null_zpse90ba1c3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="218" src="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/WIP%20and%20Tutorials/null_zpse90ba1c3.jpg" width="320" /></a><br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span> </div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span> </div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span> </div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span> </div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;">Prior to the finishing touches I firstly remove the shoulder
pads from the cocktail sticks and the back pack from the paper clip and then
fully build the mini. The transfers are then trimmed from the sheets and sliced
in the areas that’ll help them fit better, this, along with the use of
Microset, helps them to adhere models very smoothly.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<a href="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/WIP%20and%20Tutorials/null_zpse039ca05.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="160" src="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/WIP%20and%20Tutorials/null_zpse039ca05.jpg" width="320" /></a><br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">
<o:p><span style="font-family: Arial;"> </span></o:p></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;">I then leave the Microset to dry, it’s useful to check it
every now and then as you can help to smooth them around shoulder pads etc. as
it dries. As you can see from the pictures I use a flat brush to do this with,
that’s the only job that particular brush has.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">
<o:p><span style="font-family: Arial;"> </span></o:p></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/WIP%20and%20Tutorials/null_zpsf2c88da8.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/WIP%20and%20Tutorials/null_zpsf2c88da8.jpg" width="248" /></a></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;">Next up is the weathering, using Rhinox Hide straight from
the pot, I get a bit of sponge, a scrap piece from a miniature case will
probably be the easiest to find, and just dab it into the paint, always make
sure to dab it on the pallet before touching the model with it as you don’t
want to put to much on and ruin things when you’re almost done.</span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;">Once I’ve done the chipping I then add a bit of blood
splatter, for this I add some Tamiya Clear Red to Rhinox Hide until I’m happy
with the look of it and then just liberally apply it to the mini where I think
it should be. The thing I’ve found with the Tamiya red is that it starts to dry
up pretty quickly and you almost get a congealing effect that you can move
around with your brush, just don’t use a brush that you intend trying to get
back to a point afterwards, I generally just use my mixing brush for this.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">
<a href="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/WIP%20and%20Tutorials/null_zps7e450626.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="242" src="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/WIP%20and%20Tutorials/null_zps7e450626.jpg" width="320" /></a><o:p><span style="font-family: Arial;"> </span></o:p></div>
<span style="font-family: Arial;">The final bit of weathering to be done is a bit of dust
effect around the bottom of the legs, for this I use<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Forge World Weathering Powders, Dark Earth.
All I do is put some into a small pot add a bit of water until it’s nice and
runny and then just paint it on the bottom of the legs, again using an older or
more robust brush, I use a small drybrush. Once this is dry you can still move
it around on the model to try and get a more natural look, a quick lick of the
brush will help this even more.<o:p></o:p></span><br />
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">
<o:p><span style="font-family: Arial;"> </span></o:p></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">
<a href="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/WIP%20and%20Tutorials/null_zps3b302eca.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="233" src="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/WIP%20and%20Tutorials/null_zps3b302eca.jpg" width="320" /></a><span style="font-family: Arial;">All that’s left to do is add a dot of grass to the base,
really simple, a small dot of green paint where you want the grass to go, drag
the base though a tub of flock, allow to dry and blow any excess off. Then give
a spray of Varnish/Seal, I use Testors Dullcote, it’s tried and tested, I’ve
been using it for the best part of ten years. And then that’s the model all
done.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span> </div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;">In this picture you'll notice a couple of things, firstly there are 2 marines, throughout the painting of this force I've always done the basic marines in pairs. Due to the small areas of colour I think this just makes sense and it definitely helps with getting things done in a more timely manner, in reality this probably adds 45 minutes on to what is generally a 2-3 hour job so you end up saving yourself a couple of hours painting time per pair overall. Secondly, this pair haven't been varnished yet, I do this in bulk so once I've got 10 or so done, this saves you paint as it means you're not wasting as much through over spray.</span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;">You’ll notice throughout the post that I’ve kept a lot of
the colours very basic in their colour transition, this is pretty much all due
to the fact that they are getting weathered a fair amount. It’s all about
understanding what the final product is going to look like, I’ve seen painters
in the past spending a long time painting details, going through a lot of
highlight stages only to then weather their model and pretty much spoil all the
effort they’ve put in. So really I guess what I’m saying is think about the end
product prior to starting anything you do, you’ll save loads of time. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">
<o:p><span style="font-family: Arial;"> </span></o:p></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;">Hopefully you’ve found this helpful, please leave feedback
as I’d like to do more of this type of thing as I go through different armies
etc.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">
<o:p><span style="font-family: Arial;"> </span></o:p></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="color: black; mso-bidi-font-family: Arial; mso-bidi-font-size: 11.0pt;">In other news, I’ve got my Games Day Ticket for this year,
currently contemplating Golden Daemon just not sure what to do at all. Looking
at the FW Terminator Praetor or the new GW Lord Executioner, I’ve always fared
a bit better at squad though. So, just not sure at all…… Ultramarines assault
command squad?</span><o:p></o:p></span></div>

<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Hi all, well as some of you may realise I tend to build the next unit prior to painting the one I have currently built. After finishing the Dreadnought I decided to build the Autocannon Heavy Support squad so it'd be ready to paint once the tactical squad was finished.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/PH%20World%20Eaters/DSC_0002_zps4e8e5762.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/PH%20World%20Eaters/DSC_0002_zps4e8e5762.jpg" width="282" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I was hoping to get a game of Betrayal at my local club this week and after building them realised that they wouldn't be the most practical squad to take part built to game with so decided to see if I could get them done prior to going. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/PH%20World%20Eaters/DSC_0002_zps1076acec.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="115" src="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/PH%20World%20Eaters/DSC_0002_zps1076acec.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
As you can see from the picture above I managed to get them done. Now the thing is I never had to push myself to get through them, I was pleasantly surprised at just how quickly they came together.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/PH%20World%20Eaters/DSC_0008_zpscdd2805c.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/PH%20World%20Eaters/DSC_0008_zpscdd2805c.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
</span> <span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I started to wonder why this was and came to the realisation it's all about the process. With the World Eaters I'm doing something I've done a lot in the past. As I've alluded to above, I don't completely build them prior to painting.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/PH%20World%20Eaters/DSC_0007_zps62b69596.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="186" src="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/PH%20World%20Eaters/DSC_0007_zps62b69596.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">For the most part they're being built with the shoulder pads, back pack and sometimes the weapons left off, this allows me to spray the main parts in white and the other parts in black. The pads and back packs are attached to cocktails stick and paper clips respectively.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/PH%20World%20Eaters/DSC_0006_zps53982eb0.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="212" src="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/PH%20World%20Eaters/DSC_0006_zps53982eb0.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">All this does is allows me to speed up the process slightly as I always, when painting white, re undercoat areas that aren't going to be white with black prior to applying base coats etc.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/PH%20World%20Eaters/DSC_0005_zps699bc2cf.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="245" src="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/PH%20World%20Eaters/DSC_0005_zps699bc2cf.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">So with that in mind my next blog post will be something I've never done before, a walk through/talk through of a World Eater from start to finish. Hopefully you'll all find something in there of use, whether it's the process I've explained above or the weathering, applying transfers or adding the blood at the end. Until then, I've added a splash of blood to the Centurion.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/PH%20World%20Eaters/DSC_0001_zps2bbdfebc.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/PH%20World%20Eaters/DSC_0001_zps2bbdfebc.jpg" width="307" /></a></div>

<span style="font-family: Arial;">Well it’s been a couple of weeks and due to real life
(rugby, grand prix, couple of heavy nights out) I’ve not really done as much as
I would have liked. I’ve managed to build a few extra bits and also placed yet
another Forge World order for the last of the bits I need, a Spartan and a

<span style="font-family: Arial;">On the painting front I’ve done the Rampager Squad, I can
honestly say that they were a pleasure to paint, bags and bags of character
throughout. There was stuff I wasn’t noticing until actually putting paint on them,
like the guy with the swollen eye, I really enjoyed putting paint on these
guys, I think they’ll stand out pretty well within the whole force.<o:p></o:p></span></div>

<span style="font-family: Arial;">I’ve also got the first of the 2 characters done. I wanted a
pretty stoic looking face so had a look through some Plogs on Warseer to see if
I could find one that would suit and low and behold it was a friend of mine,
<a href="http://www.warseer.com/forums/showthread.php?155834-Rev-s-mostly-marines-Showcase" target="_blank">Rev,</a> who’s log sprung up the one I thought would be most suitable. The good old
terminator sergeant head, just the right look I was after. You’ll notice that
the Centurion hasn’t got any blood smeared on him at the moment, not really
sure if I want to add some, I’d appreciate some feedback and thoughts on this.
Does he need it and why etc.<o:p></o:p></span></div>

<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;">And as I mentioned above I’ve also kept on building stuff,
the first of the 2 Contemptor Dreadnoughts (currently on the painting table)
and the 2<span style="font-size: x-small;">nd </span>huge Tactical squad. All that leaves to build now is the
Destroyer Squad, the Heavy Weapons Squad, a Praetor, the 2<span style="font-size: x-small;">nd</span>
Contemptor, a Land Raider Phobos, a Spartan and last but by no means least the
Typhon. So 19 marines and dreadnought and 3 tanks, it looks a lot but hopefully
it won’t take long. On the back of this stuff I also have the remainder of
Craigs World Eaters to do as well! Best get building and painting!!</span></div>

<span style="font-family: "Arial","sans-serif";"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">So game 2 was against Chef with his 5

<span style="font-family: "Arial","sans-serif";"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Game was The Emperors Will with Hammer
and Anvil deployment. In hindsight I gave Chef the wrong deployment side(I had
the choice), I really should pay more attention to peoples lists at first look.
Through the report the turns might not be quite right but it there or there
about.<o:p></o:p></span></span></div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">

<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><span style="font-family: "Arial","sans-serif";">So my turn one I dropped in and pretty

well that wasn’t a good start although in return I probably lost 8 or nine
marines and crucially didn’t give away First Blood, so turn 2 comes and just my
Wolf Guard Arrive, that’s not so bad as at least it means I get a chance to
have a pop at his Ironclads rear armour, manage to get 2 hull points off of it.
Along with that I manage to clear the Sniper Scouts off of an objective, the
Lord got rid of a Dreadnought but as a result was down to one wound (ouch!),
and the other squads that came down in the first wave killed all of his
Warlords servitors and were now locked in combat with the Warlord. <o:p></o:p></span></span></div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">
</span><br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">
<span style="font-family: "Arial","sans-serif";"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">His Turn 2 saw none of his reserves
arrive, the Ironclad and Thunderfire Cannons killed enough Grey Hunters to
force a break check which unfortunately meant the left the board (much to my
disgust), I think this was the turn I killed his warlord as well, might have
been the following combat phase, memory’s getting a bit hazy. It also saw 2 of
my Wolf Guard die.<o:p></o:p></span></span></div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">
</span><span style="font-family: "Arial","sans-serif";"><o:p><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"> </span></o:p></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">
M</span><span style="font-family: "Arial","sans-serif";"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">y Turn 3 both of my other pods
arrived, both towards his back line, one actually scattered 9 inches to where I
would have preferred it which meant everything could get on to the rear armour
of his 2<span style="font-size: small;">nd Dreadnought, he’d also brought one of his Techmarines
down to try and shoot out my Lord the previous turn, the result of this turn
saw the last Wolf Guard chuck a speculative Krak grenade at the rear of the Ironclad
to see it go boom :D, the squad that just arrived did for the other Dreadnought
and the lord did for the Techmarine that had tried to take him out the previous
turn.<o:p></o:p></span></span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">
</span><br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">
<span style="font-family: "Arial","sans-serif";"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">All of Chefs reserves arrived this
turn, both Speeders with their Scouts came on his short board edge and the
Storm Talon zoomed on the board, he managed to kill the last of the 3 Wolf
guard, 6 of the ten strong unit that had taken out the Dreadnought the previous
turn and a couple of the marines from the other squad that had just arrived but
that was pretty much it.<o:p></o:p></span></span></div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">
</span><br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">
<span style="font-family: "Arial","sans-serif";"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Turn four saw me take out both LS
Storms and all bar 3 of the scouts that fell out of them, I managed to get into
combat with one of the Thunderfire Techmarines which stopped that shooting but
failed the charge for the other. He managed to kill another couple of marines
with the Storm Talon and I think one more from the heavily Depleted Squad at
the other side of the board.<o:p></o:p></span></span></div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">
</span><br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">
<span style="font-family: "Arial","sans-serif";"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">And that was pretty much it, the game
ended at this point due to time, I think that was more down to us taking a bit
of time to get started rather than playing slowly. Purely down to the couple of
marines that Chef managed to kill I never had any objectives, I did however
have all 3 secondary’s <span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>to nothing for
him so a 3-0 win to me, I also managed to get one of my secret missions.<o:p></o:p></span></span></div>

units, this is how the game went, me first, 4 pods consisted of 2 Rune Priest+
Wolf Guard+Grey Hunters, 1 Lord +Wolf Guard with Combi Flamer+Grey Hunters, 1
unit of the 10 Grey Hunters unit. On the initial drop I killed one Tervigon, a
couple of Guants and all the Genestealers bar the Broodlords who both took 1
wound. He managed to kill 5 of the Lords unit and Spawn 16 Guants (there was a
double in there too), there was also 5 of one of the Rune Priests squad killed
in combat which caused that unit to run. Taking a small step back in this turn,
due to the Lords unit taking so many casualties it forced a break test, this
was a bit of a crucial stage of the game. They failed the test which meant that
the Trygon, Swarmlord and Broodlord that were shaping up to charge never got
in, if they had it would have put a completely different spin on the game.<o:p></o:p></span></span></div>

arrive, I pretty much surrounded the Swarmlord and proceded to shoot him to
death, I also managed to get both Broodlords this turn and the 2<span style="font-size: small;">nd Tervigon.
His turn 2 saw one Trygon kill a Rune Priest and the remnants of his squad and
for the life of me I can’t remember what the other Trygon did this turn, potentially
he killed the 3 Wolf Guard that had just come in I also lost another couple of
marine to the Hive Guard.</span></span></span></div>

helped to get rid of the Hive Guard along with the other larger squad that was
left, the Lord along with Remnants managed to get the last Trygon which meant
all he was left with was the large squad of Guants that the Tervigon had
Spawned in the first turn. Fortunately the Doom arrived this turn for him and proceeded
to do what the Doom does best, pics are of my turn 3 start and finish.</span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">

<span lang="EN" style="font-family: "Arial","sans-serif"; mso-ansi-language: EN; mso-fareast-language: EN-GB;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Over the next couple of turns the Doom done what it
does best, along with the pod it managed to kill a whole squad of Grey Hunters
and the rest of the lords squad, the Drop Pods killed the Mysetic Spore and the
Lord finished off the Doom after he had helped kill the last of the Guants. I think
the game ended at the end of my turn 5 and resulted in a 17-7 victory to me. This
was a list that really scared me, it’s the main reason I put the high strength
stuff in and really why the Lord is there in the first place, so a good result
and I feel vindicated in a few of my choices.<o:p></o:p></span></span></div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">
</span><br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">
<span lang="EN" style="font-family: "Arial","sans-serif"; mso-ansi-language: EN; mso-fareast-language: EN-GB;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">So the end result for the event was a 3<span style="font-size: small;">rd
place for me, the best I’ve done in a while, so really chuffed, as I said in my
previous post, the event ran really smoothly, I’ll definitely be attending in
the future.<o:p></o:p></span></span></span></div>

<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">So on Saturday the 15th June I attended a local (ish) tournament at </span><a href="https://www.facebook.com/#!/groups/106690272725043/" target="_blank"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Salisbury Legion Wargames</span></a><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"> club, June Judgement. The event was 1 day 1750 points with 3/1/0 scoring system which also included secret missions that gave you 1 tournament point for each, VPs were used for tie break. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Got up nice and early on a Saturday morning for the drive over, it takes about 40 mins to get there from where I currently live so it's not too bad. I've been over to Salisbury a couple of times, I parked in the centre of town the first time I went over but have recently started using the park and ride as it's much less stressful than trying to drive around the one way system and certainly much cheaper than parking in town all day, It's free, all you have to pay is your fare into town which is £2.50 return, parking in town starts from around £7.50 all day.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The event itself was run at the Royal British Legion which is pretty much in the town centre so it's nice and easy to just pop out for lunch, as you can imagine the town has all the usual take aways etc. the local GW is also about 50m away just in case you need any supplies quickly.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">So on to the tournament itself, as I've mentioned it was a one day event at 1750 points with 3 games and secret missions, as you all probably know I'm currently running the Drop Pod Wolves, here's the list I used;</span><br />

<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">
<span style="line-height: 115%;"><span style="font-family: Arial;">So game one I was facing John Stewart with his Grey Knights/Necron combination, his basic list was this;</span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">
<span style="line-height: 115%;"><span style="font-family: Arial;"></span></span> </div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">

<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">
<span style="line-height: 115%;"><span style="font-family: Arial;">Brother Captain Psycannon</span></span></div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">2x Strike Squads, 2 Psycannons</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">3x Dreadknights, 2 with Incinerator/Psycannon, 1 only Incinerator</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">Necron Destroyer Lord, mind shackle scarabs</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">2x 5 Warriors in Doomscythes</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/null_zps191bd29f.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/null_zps191bd29f.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<span style="font-family: Arial;">The mission for this one was the Scouring and set up (not that I care about that) was Dawn of War, he managed to win the roll for set up and first turn. This Really had me worried due to Warp Quake, I did contemplate just putting the lads out on the table but just decided to crack on and just go for it. So the game started and as always if I'm not going first I'll more than likely just roll to see if I can sieze the initiative, my first bit of luck in this game, a six! Phew! Here's the resulting deployment of my first wave;</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/null_zpsf3ef4cd3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/null_zpsf3ef4cd3.jpg" width="300" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">My first turn saw me take one of his strike squads down to 2 men which also saw his Warlord go down aswell. His retaliation saw him killing a fair few marines and assaulting a unit with his Necron Lord and one of the Dreadknights, the lord won the combat and my unit retreated away from him, I managed to take a few wounds off of the dreadknight and stuck in that combat.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">My turn 2 saw all three of my reserves come down, which resulted in the majority of his other stike squad dissapearing in a hail of bolter rounds my lord and the remnants of his unit charged the Necron lord along with a Rune Priest who had split from his unit after they retreated, the lord put a couple of wounds on him which left him at initiative one for the next phase in combat. The squad in combat with the Dreadknight actually managed to take him down as well which meant at the end of my turn 2 all he had left on the board was 2 dreadknights, and a couple of strike marines who were locked in combat, a few Strike marines with a Brother Captain and a necron lord who was also locked in combat. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">His turn 2 saw both of his reserves come on and kill a couple of marines, the small strike squad managed to kill a three man unit of Wolf Guard, one Dreadknight manage to kill another couple of marines but was well out of charge range, the other Dreadknight again killed a marine or 2 but failed to get enough on his charge roll, My Lord then put the Necron Lord out of his misery.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">My turn 3 saw me finish off the remainder of the strike squad along with his other Brother Captain, the Wolf Lord charged and took a couple of wounds off of one of the Dreadknights whilst a squad along with Rune Priest charged the other and stuck, one strike marine held against 2 Grey Hunters.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">His 3 saw both the Doomscythes zoom and drop their passengers onto objectives before turbo-ing off of the board, the Wolf Lord killed the Dreadknight he was in combat with and the squad that was in combat with the other stuck this turn as well, the strike marine stuck yet again with the 2 grey Hunters.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">In my turn 4 the free Grey Hunter squads advanced towards the 5 necrons on an objective and killed a couple whilst the Wolf Lord joined the combat with the other Dreadknight and took a couple of wounds off of him (I think he killed him as we rushed the last few turns as the result was pretty clear at this point) the lone strike marine died and his doomscythes re-appeared and failed to do anything, I managed to clear the Necron Warriors off of the objective they were standing on.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">So the end result seen me winning 10-3, so quite please with that, it was a great fun game to play. One point to note is that the Wolf Lords personal tally for this game was 1 Necron Lord and 2 Dreadknights at a cost of no wounds to himself!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">I'll cover the next 2 games along with the final result in my next post.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">Until then, here's some World Eaters;</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Arial;">Well, I didn’t mean for it to take quite this long before
the next update, but hey, that’s just the way things go sometimes, isn’t it?<o:p></o:p></span></div>

large project on the go right now, hopefully some of you will have picked up on
it from the title of this post, it’s all Horus Heresy (HH) related. There’s
really 2 parts to this, the first small part is some of my ongoing commission
work, Sons of Horus. As you can see from the pics there are some boarding
marines, some Justerian Terminators, a Contemptor Dreadnought to go along with
them and Abaddon and Loken.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/Sons%20of%20Horus/DSC_0084_zps322a0f6a.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="131" src="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/Sons%20of%20Horus/DSC_0084_zps322a0f6a.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">
<o:p><span style="font-family: Arial;"></span></o:p> </div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;">The basic brief for these was for them to be of a similar
colour scheme to a unit that was featured in White Dwarf just after Christmas,
a little brighter than the norm, with the Justerian and Contemptor in the black
and red scheme. This is just the start of this commission I’m assured there’ll
be plenty more of these to come.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">
<o:p><span style="font-family: Arial;"> </span></o:p><span style="font-family: Arial;"></span></div>
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/Sons%20of%20Horus/DSC_0108_zpsb0c35720.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/Sons%20of%20Horus/DSC_0108_zpsb0c35720.jpg" width="268" /></a></div>
</span><br />
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;">So, that’s the first part, the next much larger part is a
combined project that I’m doing with Craig, the lad who bought the first lot of
World Eaters off of me. Throughout our various dealings back and forward we’ve
become pretty good friends and he recently asked if I fancied going to the HH
Betrayal campaign weekend at Warhammer World (WHW) near the end of August, I looked in to it and thought well why not, it'd give me a bit of a deadline and purpose to get painting another army. </span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span> </div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;">Now
the thing is between us we need a 6000 point army selected from the Legion army
list in the Forge World (FW) Betrayal book. Tallying up what I’ve already
painted for Craig comes to around 2000 points which means I’ve still got to
paint 4000 points of World Eaters for the event!<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">
<o:p><span style="font-family: Arial;"> </span></o:p><span style="font-family: Arial;"></span></div>
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/Sons%20of%20Horus/002_zps074cf3f6.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="146" src="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/Sons%20of%20Horus/002_zps074cf3f6.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
</span><br />
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;">With that in mind I’ve made a couple of large FW orders and
also made a start on painting. The basics of my list are as follows;<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;">1x Praetor (love the new FW Praetors, got them with the 2nd order :D)<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;">1x Centurion (Legion Champion)<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;">2x Contemptors<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;">1x 8 man Rampager Squad<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;">1x 10 man Destroyer Squad<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;">2x 20 man Tactical Squads<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;">1x 8 man Heavy Weapons Squad (Autocannons)<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;">1x Phobos Land Raider<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;">1x Spartan Assault Tank<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;">1x Typhon Heavy Siege Tank<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;">So really, 68 marines, 3 tanks and 2 dreadnoughts and that’s
not including the rest of what Craig needs but he’s looking at needing 22
marines, a Land Raider, a Rapier and a big Mechanicum Cohort. The only things I
still need to get are the Spartan and The Typhon, so I’m almost there as far as
purchases go. Here's a pic of the first box of stuff I got;</span></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/100_5361_zpsb1936321.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/100_5361_zpsb1936321.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">
<o:p><span style="font-family: Arial;"> </span></o:p></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;">So yeah, I’ve got just over 2 months to get this all done
along with a house move somewhere in the middle, I do have a couple of weeks
off of work at the beginning of August though, I will try and get alot of it
done before then. </span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span> </div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;">So far I have 10 tactical marines done and should have the rest of that squad done by the end of next weekend, so there will be more pics then.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span> </div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;">Think I’ll get it done in time?</span></div>

<br />
Here's a bit of a run down of what I've been up to over the last few months.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/Wolves/590DC55A-A54D-47F7-A03B-43934B128A89-9690-00000D90E1657CC0_zps253c9c0d.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="162" src="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/Wolves/590DC55A-A54D-47F7-A03B-43934B128A89-9690-00000D90E1657CC0_zps253c9c0d.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
First up I'll start with the wolves, as you can see from the picture above my Space Wolves that were featured in the main 40k rule book have increased in size significantly. A few months ago I was talking with a good mate John Jasinski, we were chatting about army's and stuff as you do, at that point I was still a bit frustrated with 6th ed 40k and still couldn't really get the feel for it. John suggested I go back and try something I did for a while through 5th ed, Space Wolf Drop Pods, knowing I had an event to go to about 3 weeks later I thought why not, I have a bit of time off of work, I reckon I could get it done. So I got home and got into the book and came up with a list, let John have a look, tweaked it where needed and submitted it for the event with about two and a half weeks to go.<br />
<br />
So with the list submitted I started sorting out what I needed for the event, on final tally I had to paint up 24 Grey Hunters, 2 Wolf Guard, a Rune Priest and 6 Drop Pods! Ooh...... Didn't realise it would be quite that much, it's was going to be a bit of a slog. Well it was quite a tough couple of weeks as I had to balance real life(looking after my 5 year old daughter whilst mum was at work) the FW open day and a lot of fitness in there as well. As you can see from the pic above I did actually manage it all with a day to spare as well, some more close ups below.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/Wolves/100_5342_zps07f49dfd.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="195" src="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/Wolves/100_5342_zps07f49dfd.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/Wolves/100_5338_zps0054fb00.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="217" src="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/Wolves/100_5338_zps0054fb00.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The event I attended was the Aldershot Ardboyz 1850 tournament based in the Games Shop in Aldershot, I'm not going to do a full report on the event as it's a bit of a distant memory now, needless to say, I had a great time, won 3 lost 3, came 13th overall(out of 32ish) and managed to pick up best army which was nice considering the effort I'd had to put in over the previous few weeks.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
After that event, the next thing I was planning was ASMOH over at <a href="http://www.triplehelixwargames.co.uk/" target="_blank">Triple Helix Wargames</a>, unfortunately due to real life issues I just couldn't make it :-( never mind, I had Throne of Skulls coming up in a few weeks so I could start planning for that, at least I wouldn't have to worry about painting anything else for the army.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
In the mean time I thought I'd best get on with some more commission work and managed to get 20 World Eaters assault marines done.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/PH%20World%20Eaters/100_5351_zps9185fbf0.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="125" src="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/PH%20World%20Eaters/100_5351_zps9185fbf0.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/PH%20World%20Eaters/100_5353_zpsf69e05be.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="127" src="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/PH%20World%20Eaters/100_5353_zpsf69e05be.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/PH%20World%20Eaters/100_5357_zps08490cc8.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="140" src="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/PH%20World%20Eaters/100_5357_zps08490cc8.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Managed to get these done a few days before ToS which meant I had a couple of days to chill and spend some well deserved time with the family before being away for the weekend.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Throne of Skulls was a cracking weekend, had 5 great games with some nice opponents, if you've never been to a ToS event before I strongly recommend trying one out, it's very social and for the most part players approach it in the way it's intended, I only really saw a couple of what I would consider hardcore tournament army lists over the whole weekend. Again I took Drop Pod Wolves, here's what I had in the list;</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Wolf Lord, Thunder Hammer/Storm Shield, Saga of the Bear, Wolftail Talisman</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Rune Priest, Meltabombs</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Rune Priest</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
4 Wolf Guard, 4x Combi Meltas</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Drop Pod</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
7x Grey Hunters, Meltagun, Drop Pod</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
7x Grey Hunters, Meltagun, Drop Pod</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
7x Grey Hunters, Meltagun, Drop Pod</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
8x Grey Hunters, Meltagun, Drop Pod</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
10x Grey Hunters, Flamer, Meltagun, Drop Pod</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
10x Grey Hunters, Flamer, Meltagun, Drop Pod</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Fairly straight forward, 6 pods with guys in, 1 without. It's quite surprising how much an all Drop Pod lists really throw your opponent off balance.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Went with codex powers for the Rune Priests initially then had a go with a couple of the rule book powers once I'd got a better feel for the list, really like how some of the book powers work.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
As I've said I really enjoyed the weekend over all, I came away with 4 wins and 1 loss and was pip'd by 1 point for best Space Wolf. I managed to come away with 3 of the large ToS certificates as well which is always nice. Got a best army nomination, won Hero of Legend and probably the award I'm most proud of, one of the 6 players to get all 5 best sportsmanship votes. The best sportsmanship (I forget what it's actually called, I'll update later) is really pleasing as of the 4 games I won I can't remember one that went beyond turn 4! Really chuffed.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Anyway, I'll leave you with a pic of the mini that got me Hero of Legend, the next post will be all Horus Heresy related along with including details of the massive project I'm just about to undertake.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/mentor%20leigon/100_5291_zps65a1d19e.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/mentor%20leigon/100_5291_zps65a1d19e.jpg" width="213" /></a><a href="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/mentor%20leigon/100_5310_zps8fbf0efc.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/mentor%20leigon/100_5310_zps8fbf0efc.jpg" width="182" /></a></div>
<a href="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/mentor%20leigon/100_5291_zps65a1d19e.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"></a><br />
<a href="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/mentor%20leigon/100_5291_zps65a1d19e.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><br />
</a><span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<a href="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/Fire%20Hawks/100_5283_zpsfdc405a2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"></a><br />
<a href="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/Fire%20Hawks/100_5283_zpsfdc405a2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/Fire%20Hawks/100_5283_zpsfdc405a2.jpg" width="272" /></a><span style="font-family: Arial;">On the personal side of life, might have mentioned it before but I've gained back the Fire Hawks at the cost of the World Eaters, may well have to re-visit the Horus Heresy at some point, Space Wolves anyone?!, but for now I'm trying to get back in to regular 40k so the Fire Hawks are perfect in order to help me do that, I've actually added a bit more weathering to them as well, similar to what I did to the World Eaters and am currently building and making a very slow start to painting a small allied force of Guard to go along with them.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">The Guard force is still very much in it's infancy though, so it's still very far off being even remotely done.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<a href="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/Fire%20Hawks/100_5298_zps4bf87c51.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/Fire%20Hawks/100_5298_zps4bf87c51.jpg" width="243" /></a><span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">Whilst the Guard army is coming together I'm continuing with other work in the shape of more World Eaters for the new owner and then some Sons of Horus with potientially some Charcaradons after that, so there will be alot of marine goodness coming over the next few months.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">As I've previously said I am still champing at the bit to get playing more often though, sadly real life takes alot of precedence over that, something I am working on to try and negate though, not in a bad way, just trying to get my job shifted slightly.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">That's it for now, short I know but i just wanted all the folks following to know that the blog isn't dead, well not just yet anyway :D</span><br />
<br />James Karchhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07911550805323326412noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3819786335643680880.post-5340481232509261312013-02-02T20:01:00.003+00:002013-02-02T20:02:53.124+00:00Far too longYep, as the title says it's been far too long since I posted last, to be honest that's probably because I've been far to busy painting stuff, which isn't necessarily a bad thing :D<br />
<br />
So, what have I been painting since the last post I hear you say, well with the event of the Dark Angels being released I was asked to do some more terminators for the Mentor Legion army, 16 to be precise, 5 normal Deathwing, 1 command squad, one squad of Deathwing knights and Belial.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/mentor%20leigon/100_5242a.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="227" src="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/mentor%20leigon/100_5242a.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I've really enjoyed painting these so far, after painting battered stuff for the last few months it's actually quite refreshing to paint something that doesn't need weathing. I've taken some of the more obvious Dark Angel markings off of them, really like how the colours work together, I suppose that's why I was drawn to the army all those years ago.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/100_5247_zpsf51d0f07.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="236" src="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/100_5247_zpsf51d0f07.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
I'm just starting the command squad as I type this blog post, it should be done at some point in the not too distant future, then it's on to Belial. I've also got some DA characters to do once the terminators are finished, I'll make sure I post pics of then when they're done.<br />
<br />
For myself I've finished another Contemptor for the World Eaters, unfortunately after a few games with them I've decided they're just not for me so I've managed to work out a deal which will see me getting the Fire Hawks back along with some DA bits :D<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/PH%20World%20Eaters/100_5232.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/PH%20World%20Eaters/100_5232.jpg" width="313" /></a></div>
<br />
I'm actually planning on starting to play alot more 40k now, probably because I'm more settled in work, and am planning on starting to go up to the Spiky Club in Reading alot more often, in all honesty I think marines just work for me better anyway so the Fire Hawks will bring alot of fun my way (hopefully).<br />
<br />
With that in mind I'm actually planning my next army which is looking like it'll be pure Ravenwing, has anybody got the new kits yet? awesome, I've played a pure Ravenwing army before and really enjoyed it, it's got to be worth a try in 6th ed. Sorted out an army list so I'll work from there.<br />
<br />
Anyway that's far too much rambling, I entered a tournament last week so I'll do a write up of that for the next update.<br />
<br />
Until then,<br />
<br />

<a href="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/PH%20World%20Eaters/photo_00.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="91" src="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/PH%20World%20Eaters/photo_00.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
As you can see above I've managed to get a fair bit of painting done over the last couple of weeks, decided I should try and get the army to a decent size whilst I had some spare time (is there such a thing?) and as I need the army for a forthcoming tournament that gave me a target :) So fully painted it sits at just shy of 1250 points using the Chaos Codex.<br />
<br />
So what's new then? well you've all seen the terminators and most of the tactical marines, the mkIII squad have a nice new transport in the form of a Demios Pattern Rhino.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/PH%20World%20Eaters/100_5193.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="195" src="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/PH%20World%20Eaters/100_5193.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
And the mkIV squad has an extra few guys making it a 15 man strong squad, there will be more for this squad aswell, got to get it up to 20 strong.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/PH%20World%20Eaters/100_5194.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="125" src="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/PH%20World%20Eaters/100_5194.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
Then there's some heavy support in the shape of an autocannon squad, again there will be a few more guys for this squad to give them a bit more of a cushion.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/PH%20World%20Eaters/100_5184.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="126" src="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/PH%20World%20Eaters/100_5184.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
And what would any Heresy era army be without a Contemptor Dreadnought!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/PH%20World%20Eaters/100_5180.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="319" src="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/PH%20World%20Eaters/100_5180.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
The army also got a leader, hadn't ever planned of this guy but I had the mini in the box ready to go and Angron wasn't anywhere near dropping in yet.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/PH%20World%20Eaters/100_5197.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/PH%20World%20Eaters/100_5197.jpg" width="304" /></a><a href="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/PH%20World%20Eaters/100_5196.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"></a><a href="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/PH%20World%20Eaters/100_5196.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/PH%20World%20Eaters/100_5196.jpg" width="245" /></a></div>
<div align="left" class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
And that's it for the 1250 point army, I am currently painting another Contemptor, the actual World Eaters one this time and I recieved a nice little box from Forge World the other day with Angron in it, so he's finally arrived.The eventual size for the army will be at least 1850 as it's what I'm intending to use at the Indy GT final in March, but then the Dark Angels have arrived so who knows what I'm going to use as I wouldn't mind doing some Deathwing.<br />
<br />
I also painted this guy for ebay;<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/PH%20World%20Eaters/100_5204.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="210" src="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/PH%20World%20Eaters/100_5204.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
If you're interested have a look <a href="http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/spikyjames01/m.html?item=130831025999&ssPageName=STRK%3AMESELX%3AIT&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2562" target="_blank">here,</a> I've also got a few unused gaming bits on there as well.<br />
<br />
Over the next few weeks I'll also be doing some more Mentors as part of an ongoing commission job using the new Dark Angel models, if you want to see more of the Mentors I've done look <a href="http://s32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/mentor%20leigon/" target="_blank">here,</a> just in case anybody doesn't know, the army in it's infancy was featured in the Apocalypse book.<br />
<br />
So that's it for now, just a bit of a ramble and to show you all what I've been up to over the last couple of weeks, I'd like to know what you all think of what I'm putting in here and if there's anything you'd like to see me do.<br />
<br />
Thanks<br />
<br />

<a href="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/PH%20World%20Eaters/100_5166.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="130" src="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/PH%20World%20Eaters/100_5166.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Well I'm now free from any commission work so will be getting on with my World Eaters (WE) that I'll be using for the next few months at least, anybody who knows me knows that I tend to sell armys after a few months use, not sure if this one will go but then again I say that about almost every army I do (any offers :) ).<br />
<br />
<a href="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/PH%20World%20Eaters/100_5167.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/PH%20World%20Eaters/100_5167.jpg" width="275" /></a>My initial thoughts for the WE were that I'd use the Space Wolf codex however having looked a little more at the latest Chaos book I don't think it's a coincidence it was released at the same time as the HH Betrayal book, with a few exceptions, Contemptor Dreadnoughts being one :( , the books seem to work well for building an army for use with both. I'm glad alot of the events I go to now allow the use of the FW "40k Approved" units, Chaos Contemptors aint that bad when you look into them :D<br />
<br />
So with that in mind the first event I'll be going to in the new year is a one day event ran by Tony at <a href="http://coregamesevents.blogspot.co.uk/" target="_blank">Core Games</a>, the points level for the event is an unusual 1250. The army I'm planning on taking will consist of roughly the following; Deamon Prince (Angron) although this might change, 5 Terminators (Cataphracti), 1 Chaos Contemptor, 2 squads of tooled up Chaos Marines and a 5 man Havoc Squad with Autocannons, so it's not all that big an army.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/PH%20World%20Eaters/100_5170.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="309" src="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/PH%20World%20Eaters/100_5170.jpg" width="320" /></a>The one thing that's letting me down at the minute is that I'm just not getting enough gaming in at all, I've just not had enough time, or motivation if I'm honest, to get out and play enough, I've still not really played enough 6th ed 40k so really just don't know what's good and what's not, can't honestly remember that last time I actually had a game. Hopefully I'll be able to remedy that over the next month or so prior to actually going to the one day event.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/PH%20World%20Eaters/100_5175.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/PH%20World%20Eaters/100_5175.jpg" width="284" /></a><br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
In other news the Fire Hawks were featured on the <a href="http://deathorgloryblog.blogspot.co.uk/" target="_blank">Death or Glory Blog</a> they've got alot of varied articles from painting to hard tournament gaming definately worth a look if you want to know what's going on on the UK tournament scene.<br />
<br />
Anyway, as you may have noticed, I've finished the Cataphracti squad, think they came out ok, I'm moving on to a Contemptor next and will hopefully have it done by the end of this weekend just in time for the new year so pics of it will be in my next blog post.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/PH%20World%20Eaters/100_5173.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"></a><br />
<a href="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/PH%20World%20Eaters/100_5173.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="311" src="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/PH%20World%20Eaters/100_5173.jpg" width="320" /><br />
</a><br />
Until then I'll leave you all with some more pics of the terminators from different angles so you can get a better feel for what they actually look like. As always comments and feedback is always welcome.<br />

Merry Christmas everyone!</h2>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/PH%20World%20Eaters/100_5152_zps15bd22f4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="220" src="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/PH%20World%20Eaters/100_5152_zps15bd22f4.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: inherit;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: inherit;">Sorry it's been a few weeks, real life does get in the way sometimes. So what's coming in this post, as promised I'll do a short write up on my feeling after the "Eavy Metal Masterclass, Space Marine Commander" event I went to a couple of months ago and show some of the other bits I've been painting over the last few weeks, really starting to get my mojo working again :D</span><br />
<span style="font-family: inherit;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: inherit;">So, here it is.</span><br />
<h3>
Eavy Metal Masterclass</h3>
<span style="font-family: inherit;">Decided to go to the Space Marine Commander masterclass when it was first advertised, can't remember when exactly. The main reason for going was to try and spark a bit of development in my painting as I've been stuck in a rut for far to long now with no real progression to my standard, if I'm honest I feel I've got a bit worse since my Mentors and Ultramarine days, if I'm honest mainly due to the pressure I put on myself to get things done quickly. So this was an ideal opportunity to try and gleam a few development tips. Oh, and I managed to drag my mate John along as well.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: inherit;"></span><br />
<a href="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/PH%20World%20Eaters/100_5122.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/PH%20World%20Eaters/100_5122.jpg" unselectable="on" width="300" /></a><span style="font-family: inherit;">So the day arrived and after a night in Nottingham we arrived at Warhammer World (WHW) bright and early at around 0930 on a Sunday morning, we were guided into the bottom floor of what I believe is the Forge World (FW) building, where they had a class/lecture room set up ready for the event, the room was well laid out with lots of space and individual paint stations with strip lights laid out for everyone. Each station had the paints, brushes and miniature we were going to use set up and ready to go, there was also complimentary drinks (tea/coffee) laid on as well.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: inherit;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-family: inherit;">We sat around and chatted to the other folks there for a bit prior to the Eavy Metal guys (EM) arriving at around 1000. So with the arrival of the EM a quick brief and we were set, initially there was a bit of confusion as the minis we had were modelled with an Ultramarine shoulder pad so the initial painter was going to start with blue, a colour we didn't have on our paint station, they quickly realised that they were meant to be doing red armour, quick re-set and we set off getting a nice even red colour painted on the mini and gradually went through the process of doing the armour from start to finish up until lunch at 1300. We were asked during the hour leading up to lunch what we would like from a set menu as this was also part of the ticket price which meant there was little faffing about during lunchtime ordering etc.</span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-family: inherit;"></span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"><span style="font-family: inherit;">After an hour long lunch break spent in WHW spending yet more money on FW stuff we then went back into the classroom and began doing some of the other bits, over the course of the next 4 hours we covered Gold, Cloaks, Faces and electric effect on Power Weapons (you can see a bit of a try on my WE Sgts power weapon, still more work needed). Throughout the whole day there was a camera above where the EM were painting allowing us to see what they were doing throughout. Finally there was a Q&A session which after all questions were answered they wrapped up and informed us that all the paints and brushes we used we could take home with us, not to bad!</span></span><br />
<br />
<a href="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/PH%20World%20Eaters/100_5146_zps0791ce1c.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/PH%20World%20Eaters/100_5146_zps0791ce1c.jpg" width="315" /></a>So, what are my thought's on the day as a whole I hear you ask? I'll try and list them all below.<br />
<br />
Initial impression, good but then, wtf!? these guys don't even know what colours they're meant to be using, here we go......best give them a chance though.<br />
Initially both myself and John were thinking we were going to come away with a complete painted mini as we painted the whole of the armour.<br />
We spent 3 hours painting the whole of the armour and then took 4 hours to cover 4 other subjects which lead to them rushing things in the latter part of the day.<br />
The above lead to at least one person leaving an hour early and another commenting (when I met him at the services on the way home) that alot of it went straight over his head.<br />
<br />
So really, the day could have been so much better, just to try and justify my comments a bit, I've done alot and I mean alot (it's pretty much been my job for the last 10+ years) of instruction, so I have a rough idea of how to put info acoss to people.<br />
<br />
Initial setup, Good, however, if you're instructing people in a practical skill, at least know what you're meant to be doing.<br />
An actual brief of what we were aiming to achieve during the day would also have been good.<br />
Structure, the day had little to no structure, which isn't always a bad thing, however a bit more time appreciation would probably have lead to more people understanding what was going on and not leaving early. <br />
Why didn't they just do the marine arm (enough different armour plates, power weapon, gold etc.) would have made a bit more sense and probably lead to being able to give more detailed explanations during each stage.<br />
Planning, on the set-up side of life, would have been much easier to follow if they had maybe employed the use of power point with descriptions of each stage, would also have meant people wouldn't have constantly been asking for colour recipes and stuff.<br />
<br />
Overall, the event wasn't that bad, and yes I would go again as I now understand where I could gleam the info I need, but going in blind means you may not always get what you want. Did I get what I wanted, not really but I'm more aware of my abilities now and know what I need to do to improve. I really feel it could have been done so much better, marks out of 10, I'd give it a 4. Just not sure if GW think that giving you the amount of paints etc. you get from the event justifies the mediocreness (is that even a word) of the day?.........<br />
<br />
<a href="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/PH%20World%20Eaters/100_5157_zpsf766f819.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/PH%20World%20Eaters/100_5157_zpsf766f819.jpg" width="320" /></a>I'd like to hear your thoughts on the above, I feel quite passionate about the whole thing, anyway, what have I been doing over the last few weeks, well apart from the usuall drinking and merryness that come with this time of the year I've managed to get a fair bit of painting done, I've got the following completed, 10 Sniper Scouts, 1 Chaplain Dread, the mkIV and a mkIII squads for the WEs and also built Autocannon and Cataphracti squads and 2 contemptors again for the WEs, so a few pics below.<br />

So that's it for this (slightly drunk) blog post, as you can see above I have painted the first of the Cataphracti, hopefully I'll have the whole of the squad done by the start of 2013.</div>

<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">I'll be aiming to try and keep the blog ticking over with regular painting updates and also include the occasional write up of events and stuff I've been to, so for this week it's another painting update.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<a href="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/Fire%20Hawks/100_5119.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="124" src="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/Fire%20Hawks/100_5119.jpg" width="320" /></a><span style="font-family: Arial;">I've managed to get a fair bit done this week, I say a fair bit, that roughly translates into 5 marines which isn't actually that bad considering I work full time as well. First up are a few more Sternguard for the Fire Hawks, that's the squad up to ten now. If you're wondering where the bits come from, here you go, the Crests, Tabbards and weapon parts are all from <a href="http://www.anvilindustry.co.uk/index.php?route=common/home" target="_blank">Anvil Industry</a> and the Fire Hawk shoulder pads are from my friend Ben over at <a href="http://mastercrafted.co.uk/" target="_blank">Master Crafted</a>, really pleased with the shoulder pads the accuracy and detail is some of the best independant stuff I've used, easily up to FW standard if not better, and he can produce any symbol you want, within reason. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<div align="left" class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/PH%20World%20Eaters/100_5114.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/PH%20World%20Eaters/100_5114.jpg" width="238" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I've also painted</span><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"> another couple of World Eaters, I've added a bit more blood to these guys, I want to try and ensure each one is a bit more individual than just a marine in white and blue armour, so they'll each have varying amounts of battle damage and blood etc. It might be quite a task though as the army list I'm currently building to has 40 marines in it. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">For game play due to the fact I tend to play the majority of my games at tournaments </span><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">the World Eaters are going to be played using the Space Wolves Codex, I will however try and ensure that it can be broken down to fit into the Legion army list for club play.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<div align="left" class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/PH%20World%20Eaters/100_5115.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"></a><br /></div>
<a href="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/PH%20World%20Eaters/100_5115.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="302" src="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/PH%20World%20Eaters/100_5115.jpg" width="320" /></a><br />
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span> </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span> </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span> </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span> </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">With the first of the pair I tried to capture a little bit of brutality in the blood, he's obviously smashed somebody in the face with his head aswell as placing his bolter in some unfortunates mouth prior to pulling the trigger. Hopefully that translates and I've got the blood in the right place.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span> </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span> </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span> </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/PH%20World%20Eaters/100_5116.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/PH%20World%20Eaters/100_5116.jpg" width="314" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span> </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span> </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span> </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">With the next guy I just wanted to add a bit more gore overall, hopefully I've managed to capture the brutality of the World Eaters, this will probably be the largest amount of blood that will be applied to an individual, I will be working to try and make sure blood will be placed in appropriate places as the army progresses. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/PH%20World%20Eaters/100_5117.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/PH%20World%20Eaters/100_5117.jpg" width="296" /></a><span style="font-family: Arial;">I've got the rest of this squad ready to start and I'm currently in the process of building the rest. At the minute I've got a mkIII squad built, some Cataphracti terminators and a jetbike waiting to be based along with a Contemptor Dreadnought and Demios Rhino still sitting in their bags along with a few other bits. That leads me on to the army list, as I mentioned earlier in the post, it'll be based on the Space Wolf codex for general game play as I think it suits the theme pretty well, it looks something like this; </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;">HQ</span></div>
<ul>
<li><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;">Rune Priest</span></div>
</li>
</ul>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Elites</span><br />
<ul>
<li><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">5 Wolf Guard, all terminators, 2 combi plasma, assault cannon, wolf claws, frost axes etc.</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Arial;">Venerable Dreadnought, assault cannon</span></li>
</ul>
<span style="font-family: Arial;">Troops</span><br />
<ul>
<li><span style="font-family: Arial;">10 Grey Hunters, powerfist, 2 plasma, wolf standard</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Arial;">10 Grey Hunters, power weapon, 2 plasma, wolf standard</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Arial;">10 Grey Hunters, power weapon, 2 melta, wolf standard, rhino</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Arial;">10 Grey Hunters, power weapon, 1 flamer, 1 plasma, wolf standard</span></li>
</ul>
<span style="font-family: Arial;">Fast Attack</span><br />
<ul>
<li><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">2 Land Speeders, multi meltas</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: Arial;">2 Land Speeders, multi meltas</span></li>
</ul>
<span style="font-family: Arial;">That's the basic 1500 point list, not sure how effective it'll be as I've had no chance to platy test it, it will have to grow for the Indy GT final though. Any hints tips or pointers I'll be more than happy to hear them.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">So that's all for this weeks post, I'll do the review of the Eavy Metal Masterclass I attended for next week.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Well, I bet you didn't think it would take that long! I'm not very good at this blogging malarky, I will try and make a bit more effort to start adding to the blog more often as I'm starting to lose a bit of interest in forums on the whole. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">Since the last post I've done a fair bit of painting and we've seen 6th ed 40k arrive which from the small amount I've played is a fairly different, but much more enjoyable IMO, a game. Oh, and my Space Wolves are featured in the big rulebook as well :D</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<a href="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/Dark%20Eldar/100_5077.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/Dark%20Eldar/100_5077.jpg" width="302" /></a><span style="font-family: Arial;">As far as painting goes I've done bits for Space Wolves, Mentors and Ultramarines, a Fire Hawks (Space Marine) army and I'm just starting on some Heresy era World Eaters after the release of the Forge World(FW) book Betrayal. So alot of power armour. I've also done my first Dark Eldar mini, </span><span style="font-family: Arial;">really fancy painting an army of these guys and am slowly building up bits to do so, once I've got an idea of what I want to have in the force I'll get organised and let you know what's going to be added, always happy to recieve hints and tips, not really got any idea how to make an effective xenos army?!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">On that point, I'm still at odds with what I actually need to have in an army for 6th ed, I really don't know what to put in my SW army. I've played a couple of tournaments so far with the Fire Hawks which have gone fairly well but I've been using regular marines with a few </span><span style="font-family: Arial;">FW extras, I love Contemptor Dreadnoughts, </span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/Fire%20Hawks/100_5054.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="174" src="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/Fire%20Hawks/100_5054.jpg" width="320" /></a><span style="font-family: Arial;">e</span><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">specially if they have all the guns, got to love 12 assault cannon and 2 missile launcher shots every turn of shooting especially if they have Skyfire and Interceptor. Which leads me on to a rather amusing situation in one of the games I played at heat 2 of the independant grand tournament, I was going second, my opponent had a drop pod full of Wolf Guard, he decided to drop it in front of both Contemptors! I'm sure you can imagine what happened next, I did warn my opponent as we were both fairly new to 6th ed at that time but he still decided to drop it where he placed it, 5 Wolf Guard and a Drop pod later, first blood to me in my opponents first turn whilst I was going 2nd!</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;">Anyway that's a bit of a ramble, just wanted to re-introduce the blog a bit. I'll aim to post about specific things in the future as opposed to general stuff, so you can expect posts about the Eavy Metal Masterclass I attended recently, a step by step World Eater and more than likely a few of the tournaments I attend. I'll also put together my thoughts and theory's on how I build my armies along with some more general painting updates.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;">So, that's it for now, if anybody know's any good DE blogs etc. please pass them on, really want to get an army of them done.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span> </div>

It'll be all Khorne based including (I think) all of the Khorne characters from the Codex, Skarbrand, Skulltaker and Karanak (is there anymore? I'm sure I could squeeze them in somewhere).</div><div> </div><div>The army list is 1750 and contains the following units Skarbrand, Skulltaker on a Juggernaught (pictured here), 2 units of 4 Bloodcrushers (expect pics soon) 2 units of 8 Bloodletters, 2 units of Flesh Hounds which include Karanak (anybody got ant spare?) and the final thing is 2 Soulgrinders, hopefully they're going to add a bit of much needed firepower (ish).</div><div> </div><div>With the game being absolutley flooded with Grey Knights at the minute I'm quite looking forward to seeing how they go, I'm sure they're going to be ok but not massively game winning but that doesn't really matter as anybody who know's me know's it's not really the way I play.</div><div> </div><div>So, painting, converting and basing wise there's not really that much to say, they'll be a pretty standard red colour with a few conversions here and there. For Skarbrand I'm using the Forge World Daemon Prince and have given him a couple of Great weapons from the plastic minotaur set, he's built and undercoated. I'll be doing a small bit of conversion work on the Soulgrinders to make them look a bit more like the old Khorne Daemon engines from the old Epic range. The whole army will be based on urban bases as seen above, these are just being made from bits I have in the bits box along with a few bits of plasicard and GW barbed wire, pretty easy to do.</div><div> </div><div>Once I figure out how to add more pics to my posts I'll dump a whole lot more on here for you to all have a look at.</div><div> </div><div>That's it for now, another load of rambling but hey, that's par for the course pretty much.</div><div> </div><div>Oh, and does anybody know how to get the spaces to appear between paragraphs?</div></div>James Karchhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07911550805323326412noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3819786335643680880.post-39168172008020582892011-09-14T16:07:00.000+01:002011-09-14T16:54:36.158+01:00Told you it would take a while!!!<div><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/Commission/101_4611.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px 10px 10px 0px; width: 586px; height: 800px; float: left; cursor: pointer;" border="0" alt="" src="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/Commission/101_4611.jpg" /></a><br /><div><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/Commission/101_4611.jpg"></a><br /><div><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/Commission/101_4574.jpg"></a><br /><div><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/Commission/101_4587.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px 10px 10px 0px; width: 400px; height: 306px; float: left; cursor: pointer;" border="0" alt="" src="http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d42/spikyjames/Commission/101_4587.jpg" /></a><br /><div><div><div><div><div>Well, I did say it wasn't going to be a regular thing didn't I?</div><div> </div><div>So, it's been a few months since I first started this off and it's been a rather busy time for me, I've moved house changed job and have actually managed to complete a couple of commissions as well.</div><div> </div><div>The bigger of the 2 commission jobs I've finished is yet more Space Wolves, a complete 1750 point army, (I really need to take a break from them for a while, well, at least until the rumoured GW Thunderwolves appear.........) the army was a Logan Wing force comprising of The Great Wolf himself, a Rune Priest and 25 Wolf Guard Terminators. Took me a while to actually get into this job, it <em>is</em> difficult to get motivated sometimes, but when I got into it I thoroughly enjoyed putting it together, for me that's one of the best things about building armies, actually seeing the units coming together and getting to the end result.</div><div> </div><div>The other thing I've just finished is the limited edition Armageddon diorama, I think it was availiable as part of GWs Skulz promotion (think that must have been around about 10 years ago), the mini itself came out quite well although it doesn't go together that well and the Blood Angels arms a a bit out of line.</div><div> </div><div> </div><div>As a few of you will know I'm actually the chairman of the Spiky Club in Reading, UK, which is probably one of the biggest clubs in the country with around 80 fully paid up members. Now due to me moving I'm having to hand over to somebody else :( I will still be attending on a semi regular basis but I'm currently not really sure where my gaming is going. On the plus side, I've got a few folks who are interested in starting up a club in this area which will hopefully work out well.</div><div> </div><div> </div><div>Right, that's enough rambling for now, I need to try and figure out how to post pics on here somehow, I've also got a tournament to get ready for at the weekend (Starsmash)</div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div>James Karchhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07911550805323326412noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3819786335643680880.post-78467827239893259812011-06-18T22:24:00.000+01:002011-06-18T22:48:24.229+01:00First post!<div>Hi everyone(anyone)</div><div> </div><div>Been thinking about doing this for a while, this definately won't be a regular thing, just something to put up whatever I'll be painting and building over the next however many months/years, that and any event reports and any other random stuff<em> </em>I may well be up to.</div><div> </div><div>So, what am I up to currently, as many of you may well know I do a bit of commission work, on the paint station at the minute is a 1750 point Space Wolf terminator army so I'll keep my progress on that posted here, hopefully once a week, there's the best part of 30 terminators coming up, after that there will be an all Daemon Khorne army for myself, I'm aiming at alot of conversions in there so watch this space.</div><div> </div><div>I'm also off to a tournament next week over in Bristol, ran by the good chaps of the "Bristol Vanguard", it's a one day event called "The Longest Day" it runs from 0900 in the morning to 2100 in the evening, there are 2 games at 1500 and 2 at 1750, this is the 2nd year it's running, had a blast last year, even picked up one of 5 painting trophies, going down on Friday night for a night out with a couple of the lads :D . I'll try and write up a bit of a battle report for everyone to read within a week or so of the event.</div><div> </div><div>Anyway, that's a fairly random first post, expect more of the same to be honest, I tend to ramble a bit when I get going.</div><div> </div><div>In the meantime, here's a link to my photobucket if you fancy seeing what sort of stuff I paint (kind of Space Marine centric)</div><div><a href="http://s32.photobucket.com/home/spikyjames/index">http://s32.photobucket.com/home/spikyjames/index</a></div><div> </div><div>Thanks for reading.</div><div> </div><div>James</div><div> </div><div> </div><div> </div><div> </div>James Karchhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07911550805323326412noreply@blogger.com0
